Thank you Donald, for writing in and asking us about good restaurants in the Bordeaux region. Here is my take on some of the best establishments in Bordeaux, although I do admit, it will be hard to choose. Gastronomic heaven awaits you in Bordeaux!
Hauterive Saint-James is located in Bouliac on the right bank Inspired by tobacco driers, architect Jean Nouvel has designed the hotel buildings and swimming pool. Chef Michel Porto blends south of France Mediterranean cuisine with a contemporary and clean lines which is evident from this exceptional setting overlooking Bordeaux and the Garonne. The creative cuisine is accompanied by the best wines, selected by Richard Bernard (best wine waiter, 1997). There are two further temptations: «Le Bistroy» (fish theme) and «Le Café de l’Espérance» (rotisserie).
La Tupina - Within the heart of La Tupina you will find the warmth of the fireplace, which is where all the magic happens. Tables adorned with checkerboard tablecloths and the French countryside lively hood lend to the traditions of this Basque bistro. Recognized by many as “the” regional institution, top quality ingredients and excellent Bordeaux wines are hand selected by the chef and proprietor Jean-Pierre Xiradakis.
Le Chapon Fin (pictured above) - Lot’s of history at this establishment. First opened in 1825 and one of the first to receive three stars. Putting a fresh spin on the classics, Nicolas Frion, whom assisted chef Thierry Marx at the celebrated Cordeillan-Bages in Paulliac, now oversees the restaurant.
L’Estaquade - A friendly waterfront cafe along the banks of the Garonne, food and views will dazzle you at this well known eatery. Jean Marie Esposito and Chef Frederic Montemont are a fabulous team blending Mediterranean flavors with ambiance and an unforgettable view of the city.
