If you ever had any doubts about the inspiration for Gotham City, look no further than the American Radiator Building. A towering mass of coal-black brick and bronze, the very picture of industry, it doesn’t take much of a stretch to imagine Batman surveying the land for mischief and malice from atop its gilded spires. Grand Opening Event: Stoli Hotel, Los Angeles

Stoli Hotel in Los Angeles has just announced a grand opening event on May 2, 2007. From what I understand, the hotel is really just an entertainment space that will serve as the kick-off to a month-long cutting-edge party for the who’s who of Angelenos. Inspired by the hotel on their label, Hotel Moskva, the space comes complete with all the things you would expect from a luxury hotel inlcuding a series of individually designed guest rooms and an elit suite for VIP’s only.

The 10,000 square foot space promises to deliver the city of LA, glamour, music, film and fashion within a range of authentic, invitation-only events. DJ nights with DJ AM, Samantha Ronson, Kid Millionaire and That 70’s Show’s Danny Masterson compliment celebrity-filled film premiere after-parties, concerts and magazine parties. Oh, and of course mix up some fresh stoli concoctions.

Then, sadly, it will move on…and travel to various cities across the globe, including New York, Chicago and Miami.

Lot’s of missing information on their press release and website. For one, no address listed, so all we know is that it is located somewhere in the heart of Hollywood. And two, dial 411 and they will tell you, “never heard of them”.

Firmdale Hotels in London Offers Weekend Film Club

Firmdale Hotels, one of my favorite hoteliers in London, offers six beautifully done boutique hotels scattered throughout city. The Soho Hotel, Charlotte Street Hotel, Covent Garden Hotel, The Pelham Hotel, Knightsbridge Hotel, Number Sixteen and their 7th hotel due to open in April 2007, Haymarket hotel.

Attracting a film industry crowd, Firmdale offers four ’state of the art’ screening rooms located in the Covent Garden Hotel, Charlotte Street Hotel and The Soho Hotel. Each of these hotels has a ‘Weekend Film Club’ where guests and members of the public can dine in the resident restaurant and then see the chosen film of the week. Movies vary from week to week. Guests can enjoy a special package with an overnight stay, English breakfast, film club tickets and a late check out. Three course dinner and movie costs GBP 35 per person excluding drinks and service.

Haymarket Hotel due to open in April 2007 is situated next to the famous Haymarket Theatre Royal on the corner of Suffolk Place and Haymarket. The building designed in the 19th century by John Nash will have 55 rooms and suites, private 4-level townhouse, 18 metre pool with bar, gym, lounge and nightclub.

New Orleans 2007 – Celebrate Mardi Gras & Jazzfest

If you have never experienced New Orleans Mardi Gras or Jazzfest, this may be the year to do it. While last years Mardi Gras was more of a locals’ party, kinda like the show must go on feeling, this year, New Orleans expects an increase in visitors and the quantity and quality should be close to normal. Parades start on Feb. 16 and end on Feb. 20 (Fat Tuesday), Main Street St. Charles and Jefferson Parish is where you will find families and although there are no parades in The French Quarter, it is still the place to view the wild costumes on Fat Tuesday.

It is definately not too early to start thinking about Jazzfest, which is scheduled for the weekends of April 27 and May 4. A rock’in line up with artists appearing for the first time like Norah Jones, Rod Stewart, Steely Dan, Ludacris, Stephan Marley, and ZZ Top joining the veterans like Bonnie Rait, Counting Crows, Danilo Perez, Harry Conick, Jr., Jerry Lee Lewis, Allman Brothers and the list goes on. Jazzfest is offering a premium ticket package called the BIG CHIEF VIP EXPERIENCE and includes Festival admission with re-entry privileges; access to special viewing areas at major Festival stages and in some tents; access to an air-conditioned hospitality lounge; special access to restrooms and beverage concessions; parking, costing $600 per weekend or purchase regular tickets per weekend at $35 plus service charges at ticketmaster.

There are wonderful “original” restaurants not to be missed in New Orleans including, Commander’s Palace (#1 by Zagat for the last 17 years), Galatoire’s, Bayona, and Cafe Du Monde as well as historical hotels awaiting your arrival.

Sapporo Snow Festival 2007

Every year, million’s of visitors flock to Japan to view one of their largest winter events, The Sapporo Snow Festival. This year from February 6 – 12, Sapporo turns into a winter dreamland showcasing hundreds of beautiful snow statues and ice sculptures. The festival is held in three locations: the center of downtown Sapporo at Odori Park where you will find the main festival , the grounds at Satoland that display giant statues and snow slides for kids and finally the main street in Susukino where Ice Sculptures with real fish like crabs and squid embedded into the design.

White Turf, St. Moritz
